The Crystal Heart Curling Classic Champions

The Crystal Heart Curling Classic is played annually in Ottawa, Ontario, starting on the first Thursday of February. It is the largest women's bonspiel in Eastern Canada consisting of 384 curlers.
There are 64 rinks in the Open Division and the games are held in 9 different curling clubs on 25 sheets of ice.

Kim Woods, Arlynn McPhee, Olivia Woods and Sarah Willits represented Metcalfe in The Crystal Heart Classic starting with their first game last Thursday night at The Navy and defeated Team Wilson from Navan after 6 ends.

Friday morning Metcalfe ventured to The Hunt Club were they met up with some friendly faces from Winchester and defeated Team LaPierre. It was an early start on Saturday morning as Metcalfe met up with Team Marquis from Barrie at Carleton Heights.

The tricky ice presented some challenges for both teams but after two ends, Metcalfe was able to change the game and pull off the win. That afternoon the Metcalfe team played their hearts out at the RA Centre against Team Dobenko from Rideau and faced their first loss in the bonspiel after an unfortunate pick that Arlynn will have nightmares about for the next while!

Metcalfe was back in action Sunday morning for an 8:30am start at The Ottawa Curling Club against Team Murray from Hudson, Quebec.

After the 7th end, Hudson shook, sending Metcalfe off to the finals at The RA Centre! The teams were piped onto the ice surface in a class act by the bonspiel committee and there was a whole lot of excitement in the air.

Metcalfe was playing Team Kish from North Grenville who hammered Metcalfe in last year’s event.
Nerves set in but Metcalfe was on their game and took a steal of 3 in the first end and another steal of 3 in the second end. Metcalfe was at a huge advantage having Sarah and Olivia as a power house front end and continued to play a strong game.

Arlynn didn’t miss a shot and Metcalfe sealed the deal in the 7th end for the win.Kim, Arlynn, Olivia and Sarah would like to thank their cheerleaders, Bill Woods, Terry Lantz and Al McPhee for their support throughout the spiel and encourage all ladies to consider participating in next year's event.
Congratulations ladies on a great team effort.
